New trends, inspiring exchange, and practical experience reports: Luana talks about the Swiss Cyber Storm.
Last week we attended the 10th anniversary of the Swiss Cyber Storm in Bern. This anniversary was not only a special occasion but also an excellent opportunity to network with leading figures in the cybersecurity industry and exchange the latest developments and insights in this field.
Our employee Luana Herzog (Security Analyst SOC) was also on site – we asked her about her experiences.
Luana, what were the highlights of the Swiss Cyber Storm event?
Luana: There were many exciting sessions, but one of the highlights was the keynote by Eva Galperin titled “Risky Business: Some High-Risk Users You May Not Have Thought of and How to Protect Them”. In this speech, she fascinatingly explained how anyone can become a victim of cyberstalking, even if you’re not a politician or CEO. Hackers are increasingly targeting people who lack the financial means or know-how to adequately protect themselves. A problem that is likely to become increasingly relevant in the future.
It was impressive how she conveyed the importance of cybersecurity in a broader context.
What important trends or insights did you take away from the event?
Luana: Another impressive presentation was the “Closing Keynote” titled “The Human OS: U Can’t Tech This” by Yanya Viskovich. After a whole day of technical discussions, she pointed out that the human factor is often neglected and mistakes are often blamed on employees. She emphasized the need for a “Just Culture” that can help better analyze mistakes and avoid them in the future.
The goal of a Just Culture is to create a corporate culture where employees can openly discuss mistakes without fearing negative consequences. This culture distinguishes between human errors and intentional misconduct and acts accordingly.
I was also thrilled that many presentations were given by women. It was inspiring to see how women play an important role in the cybersecurity industry.
