Swissport is the world’s largest provider of ground and cargo handling services in the aviation industry. The company employs around 43,000 people and has locations in 48 countries worldwide. Annually, over 230 million passengers, 4.1 million flights, and 4.3 million tons of cargo are handled. The worldwide reputation for the highest quality results from the optimal allocation of resources, modern ground equipment, and expertise in many areas.
The beginning of the journey
As a reliable supplier for many customers and with the specific expertise that Swissport has built since 1996, the company has grown from 3 serviced airports to over 274 in 2021. This growth has led to a very diverse environment. These essential parts of the infrastructure are managed locally. Swissport has chosen baseVISION as one of the most experienced workplace experts to design and build a new global and secure workplace.

The vision
The goal of the project was a global and standardized workplace with the following focuses:
- Security: The managed workplace is a secure implementation of an end-user workplace.
- Compliance: Adherence to rules such as a specification, policy, standard, or law.
- Cost transparency: Global procurement and one-time development effort can reduce costs through economies of scale.
- Provision of a solution to improve the shared workplace experience.
- Transition to a globally managed workplace with a global management console and standardized processes.
«Es war eine Freude, mit dem baseVISION-Team zu arbeiten. Sie sind sehr dynamisch und innovativ und arbeiten hart daran, Qualität und Wert für das Unternehmen zu liefern. Es war kein einfaches Projekt mit vielen Änderungen und technischen Überraschungen auf dem Weg. baseVISION hat sich den Herausforderungen gestellt und eine grossartige Azure-Plattformlösung für Swissport geliefert. Ich kann baseVISION nur empfehlen.»
The transformation
The infrastructure based on Microsoft Endpoint Manager is hosted in Microsoft Azure. It offers the flexibility to register and manage devices anywhere in the world and only requires a standard internet connection. To simplify this transition, it was decided to remove as many dependencies as possible from existing on-premises hosted services.
This meant that the devices were registered directly in Azure Active Directory. Thanks to the robust identity protection features, they are optimally secured.
Self-service features (such as an Autopilot-based registration) are provided to employees along with the new device in a special registration manual. The entire process is supported by a specially developed registration app.

Summary
Thanks to the new global management system, Swissport can provide a security baseline for all devices and improve security in general. In addition, the new unified endpoint management solution can manage Windows 10, Android, and iOS devices. This simplifies operational processes and reduces costs.
Overall, the new global workplace helps Swissport remain the most trusted provider of ground and cargo handling in the aviation industry.
