The situation before baseVISION: Opportunity for improvement in governance and disaster recovery
At the start of the project, ORIOR’s IT environment was in a phase where basic governance structures were lacking. There was no unified naming convention for Azure resources, which made management and traceability difficult. Likewise, a consistent tagging strategy was missing, which would have enabled clear allocation of resources and their costs. Additionally, the disaster recovery strategy was inadequate. These challenges led to unclear responsibilities, unnecessary costs, and increased risk in the event of a system failure.
The Vision
- The vision of this project was to create a scalable, secure, and future-oriented cloud environment for ORIOR that supports digital transformation while ensuring compliance with governance and compliance guidelines.
- By implementing a tailored Azure governance and building a powerful landing zone, existing services should be seamlessly integrated into the new environment.
- The goal was to increase the company’s agility and efficiency, drive innovation, and create a solid foundation for future growth.
«Die Zusammenarbeit mit baseVISION war für uns ein entscheidender Faktor bei der Optimierung unserer Azure-Umgebung. Sie haben nicht nur klare Governance-Strukturen und wichtige Sicherheitsmassnahmen etabliert, sondern auch unsere internen Prozesse gestärkt, wodurch wir die Effizienz steigern und langfristig Kosten senken konnten.»
The transformation to a Landing Zone
Concept development
At the start of the project, a tailored Azure governance concept was developed for ORIOR. The focus was on introducing clear guidelines, a naming convention, and a tagging strategy to improve management and cost control.
Implementation
Based on the developed concept, we built an Azure Landing Zone that served as the foundation for migrating existing services. Additionally, security measures such as Break Glass Accounts were implemented to strengthen the disaster recovery strategy.
Evaluation
After successful implementation, the achieved results were evaluated. The introduction of governance structures led to a significant improvement in resource control, security, and cost efficiency.
Further development
Based on the evaluations, further optimizations were identified and carried out, as well as the continuous improvement of governance to adapt the cloud environment to future requirements.
Summary
The project aimed to create a scalable, secure, and future-oriented cloud environment that supports digital transformation and ensures compliance with governance and compliance guidelines. Initially, basic governance structures, a unified naming convention, and a consistent tagging strategy were missing. These challenges led to unclear responsibilities, unnecessary costs, and increased risk in system failures.
